Our Belly's Are Killing Us!

So much discussion is made on the topic of belly fat and burning fat but how much of it is true and of any use? We’ve seen an overload of dietary programs for rapid weight loss via calorie restriction and specific isolating exercises to address these issues but again, do they work and are they really helpful in the long run?
Diet has a huge influence and is the most important factor regarding weight management but with all the dietary programs around why are people still rebounding and why with all the abundance of food these days are we having a rising epidemic of obesity and overweight issues?

Exercise too has a lot to play in the management of weight and health in general but its not the most pivotal factor. It is crucial for regulating the metabolism but without a good nutritional support system it leaves one fighting an uphill battle.

The next factor, and one which is most often overlooked, misunderstood and sometimes not even considered, is detoxification.

Detoxification is crucial in order for the body to function correctly and its key influences are obviously exercise and nutrition. Quite often the term detox is associated with fasting or diet restriction and both do have a part to play in the process but there is a lot of imbalance in this field of understanding.

The body itself is a miracle! It has the most amazing ability to process what we eat to fuel the body’s ability to operate and detoxify itself from unwanted wastes. Given the right environment the body can function like a well-oiled machine but for the greater part of society that is not quite a term we can use to describe how our lives are and how our bodies operate.

Statistics

In the world today obesity has doubled since 2008 and in places like America and Australia over 65% of adults are either obese or overweight, our children are at a ratio of 1 in 4 and on the rise and with 5 of the major leading causes of death being diseases and conditions as a result of being obese or overweight, I think its easy to say that we have a serious health issue on our hands. Obesity however is preventable!

Alzheimer's is being tipped to becoming the next biggest epidemic in the modern world. It is the 6th leading cause of death, 1 in 3 seniors dies as a result of Alzheimer's or another dementia. It is expected to cost the nation of America $203 billion in 2013 and expected to tip $1.2 trillion by 2050. Alzheimer's has links to toxic chemical and pesticide exposure, heavy metals and a barrage of other influences all leading back to the toxic environment that we live in.

Cancer is another epidemic we see in our world today, with statistics like 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women in Australia will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia – more than 43,700 people are estimated to have died from cancer in 2011. Cancer accounted for about 3 in 10 deaths in Australia. Cancer costs more than $3.8 billion in direct health system costs in Australia.
Approximately 1500 people die each day in the United States due to cancer. About 3,400 people are diagnosed with cancer each day in the U.S. It cost the American economy over $200 billion in 2008 and worldwide, cancer has biggest economic impact of any cause of death

30% of cancers could be prevented

The list goes on and on with disease and illness crippling not only our lives but our economies. Treatment is improving with new research coming out with some amazing results however this still comes at a high cost to our economy and with many unknown cures to many disease the best treatment is an age old method called PREVENTION!

“Prevention is better than cure”

Prevention can come in many forms but primarily its in the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and the environment we live in.

I wont go into the overload of details of how polluted out water, food and air is but you do the due diligence and what you’ll find will shock you. The best method in dealing with this toxic burden that is on our lives is to maintain a healthy lifestyle of exercise and relaxation, a healthy well balanced diet and using a great nutritional support system and one that assists in detoxification and cleansing.

Nutritional Support System

There are many nutritional programs and products out there, ultimately you need to find the one that works for you. The best system I know of is the Isagenix system. This is a whole body cellular cleanse and replenishing product that balances the pH of the body, gently eliminates toxic residues in the bodies organs, tissues and cells and replenishes the body with essential nutrients and antioxidants. It reduces adrenal stress on the body and assists the body’s natural detoxification process and ability to function.

I've used this product for some time and I've been able to manage healthy cholesterol levels, increase my energy levels and stamina, sleep very well and maintain a very healthy outlook in life, both physically and mentally.

Clinical trials have been done on the Isagenix system and statistically
  • People lost more weight with the Isagenix system than those living on a healthy heart diet.
  •  47% lost more fat,
  • Test subjects lost twice as much visceral fat than those on the healthy heart diet
  • 35% greater reduction in oxidative stress from the Isagenix system.
  • The university study showed a significant weight loss of 7 pounds during the first 9 days of using this program and all of them requested to stay on the program after the trials.

I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for something to take control of their health, lose a few pounds, or restore your energy levels to that of when you were a child to trial this product as this provides the best system I know that addresses preventative care via nutrition, and this truly, is the future of our health care.

Diet

As for your standard diet its important to maintain a good balance. Life is to be enjoyed but we must watch what we eat.
  • Avoiding  processed and packet foods and sticking to more raw foods and fresh foods is key to good health. The antioxidant quality in fresh food is essential and is something you cant find in processed foods.
  • Take the time to learn what foods you need to eat and what your body needs,
  • Learn to cook, this is a life skill and something we should all be able to do.
  • If you’re stuck visit a nutritionist to get some help and advice and work out a good eating plan.

Exercise

Exercise is like food also you need to find what works for your body type and what you need to be doing. This is something that does require motivation and discipline but it could mean the difference between good health and chronic health issues later in life. We were designed to move, lift, carry, walk and run so we need to maintain that in our lives and keep mobile. Again like the diet you may need to see a personal trainer or visit a gym what ever it takes just keep active.
  • Take on a gym membership
  • Maintain a daily, weekly exercise program and set personal goals to pursue
  • Hire a personal trainer.
  • Get off the couch and don't be lazy!

The Challenge

So what are you going to do about your health today?

  • Are you going to continue to sit back on your laurels and do nothing or are you going to heed the message I've just shown you and take some action?
  • You cant make it your next New Years resolution because for some of you, you may not be here by then.
  • Now is the time to do it!
  • Now is the time to self motivate!
  • Now is the time to take control of your health and give yourself the reassurance that you know you have done something about it.

I challenge you to set yourself a goal, visit that personal trainer and that nutritionist. I challenge you to trial a good nutritional support system (contact me via my contact page if you want info on the product I mentioned) and see the results for yourself!

Just! Do! It!

More Proof You Can’t Out-Exercise a Bad Diet

Know someone who works out often, but can’t seem to lose any weight? Many Americans are having the same problem: a new study from the University of Washington has found that while more people are exercising, the rate of obesity is climbing too.

The findings imply that many people are ramping up their exercise routine with hopes of dropping weight quickly; only they’re finding out that weight loss is more about what you put in your mouth rather than the time you put in at the gym.

“Americans are not doing enough to control what they eat,” said the study’s senior author Ali Mokdad in a press release. “They still consume more energy than they burn off through exercise.”
The nine-year study included data from two U.S. health surveys and found that, from 2001 to 2009, the amount of adults who met recommendations for physical activity increased in most U.S. counties. Those recommendations are 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week.

People exercising more is always a good thing, since exercise boosts health in multiple ways—keeping bones and muscles strong, supporting brain function, revving up energy levels, and reducing overall risk of chronic disease. But on the other hand, the corresponding rise in obesity raises concerns.

Unfortunately, the fact is that physical activity can rarely compensate for overeating a poor diet. Consider that an average 150-pound person would have to run more than 5 miles just to work off the calories found in a fast food milk shake or a quarter pounder (~600 kcals). Exercising off excess calories daily is not always easy when you are continuously tempted by high-calorie foods.

Sticking with a weight-loss or weight-maintenance program is easier with Isagenix products. The company provides clinically supported nutritional products and systems along with program guides that offer an easy and efficient way to get thinner, or maintain that thin, without risking your nutritional needs.

When compared against a doctor-prescribed heart-healthy diet, a clinical research study (see details here) found that the Isagenix system resulted in more weight loss, more fat loss–including twice as much loss of deadly visceral fat–and more improvements to overall health markers. The subjects on the Isagenix system also reported better compliance and more predictable weight loss. Not to mention, they didn’t want to stop taking the IsaLean Shakes.

Exercise should always be encouraged; however, Isagenix exists to help people get their diet under control and keep it that way, which is the larger part of the equation for weight control. With delicious products based on the latest findings in nutritional science and systems that are clinically studied and easy to follow, what Isagenix offers is perfectly primed to help reverse the trend of increasing waistlines—exercise included or not

Bed Time Belly Buster!

Looking to burn that unwanted belly fat?

I've seen heaps of adverts and posts about how to flatten that stomach, it seems to be the biggest concern for a lot of people, and you can find some really good advice from these articles but a lot don't address the reason why we get a fat blubbery jelly belly in the first place.

Some might address prevention but mostly all that I have come across are always incomplete in their research. We tend to focus on the band-aid approach instead of dealing with weight issues instead of the cause of the problems to start with.

We can all agree though that weight issues are a symptom of our modern world. Its in the lifestyles we live, the environment we exist in and the crap food we eat, and even when we eat well it goes further down the chain to the manufacture and then it takes an even further step back to production and its at these stages that it all begins. The only approach to a healthy future is prevention

"Prevention is the best cure"

Our food is greatly compromised in both nutritional value as well as being contaminated with toxic residues and it's this combination that has created a food chain that is lacking and of poor quality.

Science is now showing the connection between fat storage and toxicity where the body goes into production of fat cells to counteract the bombardment of toxins in order to protect the body from these harmful pollutants. To emphasise on what I mean by toxins, since some debate this theory, I am referring to those toxins ingested, exposure to harmful chemicals, stress, and dietary foods that the body considers toxic and cannot process etc and not entirely chemical pollutants.

The Method of Prevention

The Isagenix products, in a more specific description, are a cellular cleansing and replenishing system that assist in helping the body's natural detoxification process while flooding it with vital nutrition to support and replenish the bodies organs, tissues and cells.

That age old saying " YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT" applies greatly here. If you eat garbage food your body draws from that crap to reproduce its cells and tissues, bones etc so if you eat crap you end up with a crap body. Supplying your body with high quality, well formulated nutrition gives the body the best chance of reproducing healthy cells and organs and ensuring a long and healthy life.

I've never come across a range of products that are so convenient, so well put together, so perfectly formulated as the Isagenix Nutritional systems. They speak for themselves and with a 95% satisfaction rate you cannot deny its a great product.

With regard to the Bed Time Belly Buster, the science behind it shows that pairing the right nutrients prior to bed time can assist in better sleep, muscle preservation, boost fat burning and assist in weight management.

I have begun using this system before bed and have noticed a huge difference in sleep patterns and especially in recovery. Obviously I'm not going to make the claim that you can sit on your jolly behind and just take a shake before bed and all your belly problems will go away. Don't be lazy!

Naturally just as pairing these nutrients together causes fat to burn so to does pairing exercise with nutrition will give you a healthy body. Its essential for overall health and longevity to incorporate healthy well balanced meals with the great nutrition found in these products along with a well arranged exercise program preferably designed by a personal trainer or fitness instructor.

A Naturopaths Perspective on the Isagenix Products

I've been using the Isagenix range of products now for 6 months and I have not felt this good in my entire life. Ive tried and tested everything from my own personally blended concoctions of organic products to various programs and supplements over the years with various results but nothing compared to what I am now.

It was about a week into it that I began to feel fresh and energized with increased mental clarity and sleep and now six months on, im love waking up every morning ready to start the day! What I love about this one product is that it includes everything I need in a nutritional product and it is so simple and convenient and it fits into my busy lifestyle.

It doesn't compromise on quality, the production of these products are ethically sound and the company vibe is oozing with integrity and leaves the product user satisfied and self assured not to mention their outstanding customer service ive never loved a product as much as this one.

A good friend of mine and mentor Jeniffer Jefferies who is a naturopath of 25 plus years has recorded a great interview of her interpretation of the product. She covers her story and goes into the product details and even covers the business side as well. (10 mins) Valuable information! Enjoy!

Success is Just Around the Corner

Well I've been away for some time reconnecting with what is important and getting up to speed on all the latest and greatest research regarding nutrition and health. I've just started a personal body challenge to commit myself to something that I can use to share all the results of my success and to inspire others into what is possible. Ive also given myself a new business challenge as well which I have solidified by making myself accountable to someone who is mentoring me.

This is a challenge for me, having to juggle being a stay at home dad raising 2 children with house duties, and as well as studying counselling, I'm hard pressed for time but my commitment is to get the word out and help others achieve physical and financial success and inspire people to leap over all those challenges in life that hold us back from reaching our full potential.

Doctor Doctor give me the news....Your thyroid is improving!

Doctor ! Doctor! Give me the News!

Well finally after a few weeks I went in to see my doctor to get a print out of the results of my cholesterol levels. As mentioned in my previous posts my cholesterol levels dropped from 6.2 down to 5.1 in approximately 8 weeks. What I was not expecting was that also my thyroid levels had gone up, in other words my medication was too high.

Ive been on thyroxine now to about 4 years and have always been on 150mg and its never changed and today the doc asked me to drop down to 125mg and come back in 2 months. Well I was over the moon, I've always wanted to lower my levels and have tried just about everything to achieve this with no success until now.

What an amazing difference I have seen in the past 2 months. Not only are my energy levels high, I sleep amazingly well and all through the night now which I haven't been able to do since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago. Ive suffered with back pain all my life even as a kid, and now I currently have no back pain. My memory has improved and I'm far more alert. Life has just gotten so much more better.

Here are the results from the doc on my cholesterol

As you can see they were very high the last 2 years. I took cholesterol lowering medication prior to the 25/05/2011 however that stuff is just so bad for you and it killed my libido! I went off it after that and my levels went up again. After the results from 12/01/2012 i decided to try cutting out all the wrong foods and began a healthy way of living incorporating some exercise but it just didn't cut it.

As you can see my HDL went up 0.1 and my triglycerides went down along with my LDL cholesterol placing me in a much better place than before. I'm interested to see how these levels are next time I go in. But more importantly I'm excited to see some progress on the thyroid front.

My next mission now is to work towards maintaining a healthy exercise routine and my family needs it as well.

To good health and longevity!

Anyone else have any similar stories?
